We are proud to announce our doctors won first prize at the annual SASMFOS (South African Maxillo-Facial and Oral Surgery) congress for a poster presentation on a remarkable case about a girl whose jaw joints was damaged as a child.
She could not open her mouth for 18 years, but after the operation was done by Dr Coelette Smit and Dr Jameel Desai she could learn to open her mouth and eat normal food.
She received a total jaw joint replacement and her chin was moved so that she had a more aesthetic appearance.
This surgery is called a total joint replacement and orthognathic surgery. In the photo is our doctors and also doctors Sanet Bithrey and Sharan Naidoo who helped with the setup of the poster.
