She is one of a hand full of Maxillo-Facial and Oral Surgeons who is both medically and dentally qualified. Her first masters degree was focussed on the development of Oro-facial cleft formation (the causes of cleft lip and palate deformities) with her second masters degree research focused on babies with syndromes.
We are also proud to mention that Dr C Smit was awarded the KLS Martin/ Leibinger national prize for her research in cleft lip and palate non-syndromic aetiology, there after presented in Dubrovnic, Croatia. Dr Coelette is passionate about her work and thrives to present and develope cutting edge treatments. Her fields of interest further includes facial reconstruction after pathology or trauma using the newest technology. She bridges the gap between invasive and minor invasive treatments to improve facial aesthetics and function.
Her love for temporomandibular surgery has lead her to in-depth understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of the conditions affecting joint function. Dr Smit will continue to work at presenting research within the Maxillo-Facial field of specialisation.
